Aztecs

It is early in the morning when I wake up and the first thing I do is pray to the gods. In our culture religion is so intertwined in our community so you pray here a lot. In my culture here in Tenochtitlan I am macechualli which is like a subsistance farmer. So after I pray I go out to the field and start to harvest my crops. I am lucky because my field is very fertile and I usually grow enough to sell some to a pochtecatl which is a merchant here.

Recently here in the Tenochtitlan I was fighting the Mayans for over a month because of a territory dispute. I hate the Mayans but we will get back to them later but see the lowest class in the Aztec are the slaves but I am not doing to much better my social class is the macechualli like I have told you but above me is the pochtetactl like I have mentioned before who are merchants, but each merchant was in one specific guild like food or the weapons guild so there were lot of options if you were a pochtecatl. Above him is a tecuhtli which is a lord. This rank would most likely be gained if you did aheroic act in battle and if you did get promoted you would get your own private estate and some loose interpretation of slaves. Above him is pilli which is a noble. If you were a pilli then you had a father who had royal lineage. We have two sections here in Tenochtitlan the political sector and the economic sector. In the poli

tical sector if you were a pilli you and other pilli would own all of the land in the political sector and be allowed to give the farm land away to someone like me a macechualli. The pilli lived lavish lives and got jewels, sculptures and other luxury items were produced just for them. At the very tip top of the list is Huey Tlatoani which is the king. Also he was the person who talked to the gods to find out if they were happy and asked what they wanted so he was like a priest as well as a king.

On a personal note I have a wife and one 17 year old boy who goes to tepochcalli which is the school for learning about practical Aztec culture and military skills. But also there is calmecac which is for people with higher status than me which is focused a lot more on advanced learning in writing, astronomy, statesmanship, and theology. This was school system was very advanced and complex. My favorite meal I have ever had is I had a tortilla made out of maize with spices and meat. I have only had it once but I would die to try it again because it was delicious also eating meat is very rare my social class. The most common meal by far was maize I have it every meal. In my culture we ate two meals a day and the biggest is when it is the hottest part of the day. One of my favorite games is ollamalitzi which is played with a solid rubber ball and you try put that through a stone ring. The only rule is try and get it in so it is a free for all. The winning team could literaly take the clothes off the losing teams back. The captain of the losing team got his head cut off. I do value the culture and leaders of this great society but one thing I would love to change is for the military to be independent so we don’t fight battles in the morning and cultivate the crops in the afternoon. That is only thing I want at this point.

I have just been notified that I am going on a journey to visit two other cultures the Inca and the Maya. So first up we are making a long walking journey to the Mayan city-state the Palace of Cancuen. When I arrive the buildings are so tall and very well built and the market is bustling and this place looks like is doing very well. The food here is very similar to where we come from the ingredients are corn, beans and squash in pretty much every meal. One thing they love are chillies on their beans and the Mayans were in love with spices. The Mayans are very similar in to us probably because we live very close and the topography is very similar and we have adapted the same but one thing that I did learn is we need to improve our pyramids.
Then I take a long boat ride to the Inca’s and when there I find out they very hostile to other cultures and when they find out that we are Aztecs they takes us prisoner and probably going to execute us. They are taking my journal so good bye.
